TARZAN OF THE APES

Tarzan of the Apes is a modern opera about borderless love, heritage, status and identity. The libretto and the music are written and composed by Broadwaywriter and -director John Fransceschina. The piece is performed by soprano, tenor and bariton. The piece is written for accordeon orchestra. I got asked to direct the piece in The Netherland. I enjoy projects in which music and film or theater are combined, and it was a great challenge to interpret John's work in a sincere, artistic way, while making it my own as well.

Together with the actors, I worked on staging, placing, acting and Dutch pronunciation (as most of the cast consisted of not-native speakers). Together with conductor and musical leader Hans Barten, I worked on the balance between the voices of the actors and the orchestra. A tour to the US was being planned, but because of the pandemic we stayed in the Netherlands. Tarzan of the Apes was performed in the Parktheater, Alphen a/d Rijn, Atlas Theater, Emmen and in Theater Corrosia, Almere.
